New Survey Finds Dramatic Increase in Uninsured
The Courier Journal reports today that a new poll found that one-third of Kentuckians below the age of 65—almost 900,000 people—do not have health insurance.
The survey, conducted in October and November by the University of Cincinnati for the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, found that 33 percent of Kentuckians aged 18 to 64 lacked health coverage compared with 23 percent in early 2008. The increase in unemployment was identified as the key culprit in loss of health coverage as Kentucky’s unemployment rate rose from 6 percent to about 11 percent during the same period.
