Kentucky To Receive $155 Million in Additional Federal Medicaid Funds

 

Amount Less Than Expected Under Current State Budget

 

The August 11 edition of The Courier-Journal reports that Kentucky will receive an estimated $155 million in additional federal Medicaid funds under the extension of the enhanced federal Medicaid matching rate passed by Congress on August 10.

 

This amount is about $83 million less than the recently enacted state budget assumed the state would get for the current fiscal year.  Kentucky’s FY 2010-12 budget was based on the assumption that the Commonwealth would received about $238 million in additional federal funds.

 

State Representative Jimmie Lee, Co-Chair of the Medicaid Cost Containment Task Force, noted that the additional funds were welcome, but is not enough to operate Medicaid at its current appropriation level of $5.2 billion per year.

 

“It’s going to be another hole we’re going to have to look at,” said Lee.
